In this incomparable art of tattoo, their lies an ideology just like the other forms of art. Tattoos are basically representation of their beliefs interests, stories or any such attributes. Tattoos are practiced by en number of cultures all over the world, differentiating by its own significances. The attraction is obvious, to decorate one’s body with permanent art is a powerful statement, not easily erased or altered, so the act itself is almost as intriguing as the image itself might be.

 

1. Tatau:

The word tattoo is derived from the Polynesian noun tatau, sounds interesting right? The word tatau means puncture or mark made on skin.

2. First Tattoo Machine:

The first ever tattoo machine was patented by Samuel F. O’Reilley in the year 1891. It was modified from Thomas Alva Edison’s patented autographic printing,1876.

3. The Tragedy:

The tattoo parlours in New York City were forced to shut down and were banned from 1961 and 1977 following the outbreak of hepatitis B. But they are back in force since legalization.

4. No. Of Piercings:

Skin can be pierced between 50 and 3,000 times per minute depending on the size of the design and colours used in the tattoo.

5. Black Ink:

Burnt animal bones and resin of shellac beetles are usually used to make black tattoo ink. However there are a lot of vegan tattoo parlours for those are totally against animal products.

6. Sailors’ Tattoos:

During the reign of pirates and sailor’s, tattoos had a very different definition. A tattoo of turtle indicated that the sailor has crossed the equator. similarly, the dragon tattoo indicates that the sailor has served in China and the anchor resembled that the sailor has crossed the Atlantic.
